Advent Week One: Hope

This is my favorite time of year; the time of year that we celebrate Advent!

Advent:
an arrival or coming, esp one which is awaited

We spend these four weeks before Christmas WAITING for the coming of the King! Week one is the week of HOPE, so this week we are reminded of the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

As far back as I can remember, my family has celebrated this special season. We would sit around the table EVERY NIGHT for family dinner, share a devotion, and eat yummy oranges that Mom would peel for us :)

Times have changed, and we don't always get to sit and enjoy our family dinner and devotion together, and Mom isn't here to peel our oranges for us, but I keep reminding myself that there is more to Advent than just the traditions. While our family was young, these traditions pulled us together and kept us strong as a family. Yet now, when our family has grown up and changed in such drastic ways, we still Wait for the coming of our King.

Advent keeps our focus on Jesus, and off the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.
So this Advent season, remember to take the time, to slow down, to WAIT. Don't get caught up in the world's definition of Christmas. Forget about your shopping list for a moment, forget about decorating for a moment, forget about the rush of the Christmas season......slow down and WAIT!
